Reading Success is an Orton-Gillingham and Science of Reading aligned
tutoring service provided by Dr. Maureen Ray via zoom.
The Orton-Gillingham approach was developed specifically for anyone with a language-based learning disability like dyslexia, however, it can be effective for any struggling or developing reader.
I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association-Oregon.
I
provide one-to-one online tutoring for your students'
reading success. Tutoring sessions are structured and sequential;Â reading, spelling, and fluency are taught and practiced each session. Parents are provided word lists and readings to practice with their developing reader.
About me
I have a doctorate in education, and I have been an educator for 20 years in Portland, Oregon. I taught English
Language Arts, ESOL, and Social Studies for middle and high school. In our country, a majority of students read below grade level. As part of my teaching practice, I started researching how to improve my students'
reading comprehension. My research and studies led me to building
students' vocabulary and background knowledge. This helped many
students' comprehension to grow substantially, but there were still
students who struggled. This led to studying how to work with
students who have dyslexia and reading difficulties. I am now a trained reading tutor, and I have recently started
tutoring students in reading and academic studies. It has been
gratifying to see students realize they
can increase their reading fluency and access reading success. All students and adults can
learn to read.
